PSD FAQS

Q: Do I need a diagnosis to join the program?

We do not require you to share personal medical details with us, but this program is designed for handlers with psychiatric disabilities who need task-based support. We may recommend you speak with your mental health provider about whether a psychiatric service dog is appropriate for you.

Q: Can any dog become a psychiatric service dog?

Not every dog is a good fit. We look at age, temperament, health, and behavior. During the screening process, we’ll give you honest feedback about your dog’s suitability.

Q: Is this the same as an emotional support animal?

No. Psychiatric service dogs are task-trained and have public access rights under the ADA. Emotional support animals do not perform trained tasks and do not have the same access.

Q: How long does the program take?

About 6 months, including a 30-day Board & Train foundation and follow-up lessons for you and your dog.

Q: Do you guarantee certification?

We cannot ethically or legally guarantee outcomes. Graduation is based on participation, behavior, and performance on our public access evaluation.
